Easy German Meatloaf

Fast and easy recipe. Full of German flavor and makes a great change from the ordinary lineup of meals. Surprise your family tonight and share some German heritage.


Ingredients


Meatloaf

  • 1 Pound of Ground Beef.

  • 1 Pound of Ground Pork.

  • 1 Cup of Chopped Onions.

  • 1 Cup of your favorite Applesauce.

  • 1 Cup of Breadcrumbs (for Gluten free use Gluten Free Breadcrumbs or 1 Cup of White Rice.

  • 2 Heaping tablespoons of Stoneground Mustard or your favorite German Mustard.

  • 1 Heaping teaspoon of Caraway Seeds

  • 1 Heaping teaspoon of Paprika

German Sauce (Optional)

  • 1 Cup of Vegetable Broth

  • 1 - 8 Ounce can of Tomato Sauce

  • 1/2 Cup of White Wine

  • 2 Small Onions finely chopped

  • 1 Red Pepper finely chopped

  • 5-6 Mushrooms chopped (Optional)

  • 2 Teaspoons Paprika

  • Add Roux to thicken Sauce


Directions

  1. Preheat Oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Place both meats in a large mixing bowl.

  3. Add Onions, Applesauce, Breadcrumbs or Rice, Mustard, Caraway Seeds and Paprika to meat mixture.

  4. Mix thoroughly with clean hands until mixture is well mixed.

  5. Form a loaf with mixture and place in a meatloaf pan.

  6. Cook for approximately 1 hour or until internal temperature reaches a minimum of 145 degrees.

  7. For Sauce: While meatloaf is cooking, place all ingredients in a suitable sauce pan and bring to a slow boil. Add 1 teaspoon of Roux at a time until sauce thickens to your liking. Serve over meat.

Pro Tip: For Gluten Free, use Gluten Free Bread Crumbs or 1 cup of White Rice. For added flavor, serve over a bed of Fried Potatoes and Cabbage.
